Failover Technology FAQ

Learn more about our failover technology with the short FAQ below. If you have furthur questions or need furthur assistance please contact our sales dept here.

What is clustered failover?
A cluster is a group of servers networked together to share the work load. Failover is the process of transferring operation of a failed server to a backup server to ensure websites remain online even due to hardware failure or maintenance. Failover is used to host mission critical websites that require constant availability.

How does clustered failover improve performance and reliability?
In the event of a server failure our failover system wil route all traffic to the available server within the cluster thus keeping your website online and improving reliability. Additionally, by routing database queries to a database server within the cluster we can maximize overall performance resulting in faster response times.

How does the failover work?
Our servers run a failover application that check the servers every second. If a failure is detected our application will automatically initiate the available server to take over all server services (web, email, mysql, cpanel, etc). Once all server services are failed over (up to 2 minutes) your website will remain online until the failed server is fixed. To see a flash diagram on how our system works click here.

What type of servers do you use in the cluster?
The servers within the cluster run Dual/Quad-Core Xeon processors with 4 GB of memory, SATA II hot-swappable drives, and 3ware hardware Raid 1.

We exclusively use the Linux CentOS operating system as it is one of the most popular server operating systems in the industry today. It is constantly under active development which insures a reliable, secure, and robust platform for web hosting environments.
